I think responsive environment give lot of information to planners to identify a specific area easily. Because that environment have variety and other qualities. And also responsive environment have more legibility.

as a planning student we must think about responsive environment and how to face that.variety of  places  have various environment.fist we identify place which have change.that change gives lot of information.i think responsive environment is a good quality of planning.

RESPONSIVE ENVIRONMENTS

                               This is a practical book about architecture & urban design. Step by step it discusses how we can achieve the environment in real life. Through some main qualities this book shows how do you create opportunities for people? So, the book becomes a 'How to' guide for designers which looked at some of the following important elements of a city: Permeability, Variety, Legibility, Robustness, Visual appropriateness, Richness and Personalization. Responsiveness meant the Ability of a designed environments to respond to the user’s needs and the aspirations.

                          The quality “permeability” says that only places which are accessible to people can offer them choice. The extent to which an environment allows people a choice of access through it, from place to place is therefore a key measure of its responsiveness. There are some declines to public permeability. Second key quality is verity. From it clearly says that accessible places are only valuable if they offer experiential choices. The third quality legibility is the quality of a place which makes that easily understand through the physical form and activity pattern.

Authors are describing those qualities continuously in an attractive manner. Then they describe the things which relevant to robustness, Visual appropriateness, richness and also personalization. If number of different purposes a place can use it called as robustness. There are some key factors to keep long term robustness. In that book visual appropriateness has introduced as the way in which the design physically can make people aware of the choices the place provides.The quality which affects people’s choice of sensory experience known as richness and it can be categorizes under visual and non-visual. As the last quality authors have discussed about the personalization.  Through the personalization make people achieve an environment with their own stamps.
